About

Carla Myers 2024

Hi, I'm Carla Myers.

I am a freelance nonfiction editor and member of Editors Canada.

My editing certificate is from Simon Fraser University, where I studied structural editing, stylistic editing, copyediting, and proofreading.

I fine-tune written materials for businesses so they can better serve their readers.

I also work with authors from the initial big-picture edit through to the final polish. I enjoy editing trade nonfiction, such as memoirs, biography, self-help, parenting, business, travel, health, religion and spirituality, and outdoor recreation.

I chose to become an editor because . . .

My world has always revolved around learning and communication. I worked for many years as a classroom teacher, helping my students gain the skills they would need to become better writers.

Once a teacher, always a teacher! My editing style is one of collaboration and encouragement. I’m happy to guide you through the editing process.

Why nonfiction editing? Well, I’ve always been drawn to books that teach me something—about myself, about others, or about the world we live in. All of this motivates me to help authors produce writing that will not only make an impact on the world but also be a pleasure to read.

My interests include . . .

My hobbies include exploring the outdoors, creating delicious food (typically while listening to a podcast), and planning adventurous travel around the globe.

I’ve long had the travel bug. My travel highlights include breathtaking hikes through mountain ranges like the Dolomites, Yosemite National Park, and the Picos de Europa, as well as marvelling at architectural wonders such as the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona and the Borobudur Temple in Central Java.

I live in Calgary, Alberta, with my husband, our kids, and our goofy mini-bernedoodle. With the spectacular Rocky Mountains on our doorstep, my family enjoys cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, rock climbing, and hiking.

We might be a good fit if . . .

You are looking for an editor who

  • meets deadlines,
  • stays in constant communication,
  • has a keen eye for detail,
  • and improves your writing, without suffocating your style.

My goal as an editor is to ensure that your message and your voice continue to shine through as we serve your readers with well-written content.
